Derived from GRAEME BUTLER 1983, CONSERVATION STUDY FOR THE CITY OF MELBOURNE OF NORTH AND WEST MELBOURNEGrading as at 1985 : CPeriod : Victorian-era (1885-6)Crown Grantee : J Davies 1858History- John Hewton, a draper, lived next door (207) to these houses that he owned from 1885 to 1896 as rental propositions. Dennis Wadick, the contractor, was living in 211 Flemington in 1885 so it is possible that he was the builder. Other residents included Thomas Courtney, a teacher, Frederick Burton, an hotel keeper; Ferdinand Hann, a meat salesman and Thomas Pilkington, a traveller. Both Wadick and Pilkington were councillors of Hotham/North Melbourne at various times.Description- Wide-fronted and two-storeyed parapetted row houses, with two-level cast-iron verandahs and timber, spade-head picket fences: the wall finish is of polychrome brick. Segment-arched entablatures are placed centrally between parapet panels and piers which once presumably supported urns.
