General notes:
Image held by North Melbourne Library.Original ground floor layout of North Melbourne Mechanics Institute (now North Melbourne Library), including all shops and dwellings between Queensbury St and Little Errol St, North Melbourne. Part A.Notes: It appears that, perhaps being a council owned building, the mechanics' institute was not assigned a house/business number, as it is left unnumbered between each of its adjacent business neighbours. In addition, the business and dwelling numbers have today all but changed, as the library's official street number is now 66. It is interesting to note that the entire staircase has since been relocated horizontally adjacent to the right of its position in this blueprint, and that there once actually stood a massive stage and lecture hall space in the area of the library that is today, the main Children's and Young Adult area. The area just above the space labelled "Crate Room" can be seen to accomodate the side entrance to the stage. This same area today, accommodates the automatic book sorting machine. Shop No. 60, is today, the Adult Fiction area of the library, and shop No's. 58 and 56 are now combined, the current space operating as Manfred's Shoe Lounge.
