General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1914History:The house at 45 Westbourne Road was constructed c.1914. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1914 as a 'house being built'. The following year, the house was occupied by Walter Wedgewood, who remained there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 45 Westbourne Road is a single-storey weatherboard Edwardian cottage with a hipped and gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof and raised on a timber slatted plinth. The projecting bay is gabled and has a rectangular bay window and a half-timbered and roughcast rendered gabled end. The side entrance is located within a porch supported on turned timber posts, accessed by a short flight of stairs. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 45 Westbourne Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
