Building: Former Cheetham & Borwick BuildingBuilding Type: FactoryPeriod; Date : Inter-War; 1921History : Rate books indicate that the site of 20-22 Orr Street was formerly occupied by a pair f small brick cottages. The present building first appears in the Sands & McDougall directory for 1922, identified as 20 Orr Street and occupied by Cheetham & Borwick, a firm of motor body builders. By 1924, the building had been taken over by Carter & McLeavy, motor mechanics, and around 1927, by the Dunlop Rubber Company as a repairs shop. The building was vacant for most of the 1930's before being taken over by Allen & Co in 1940. The company used the building as a storage facility until at least the early 1970'sDescription: The building at 20-22 Orr Street is a double-storey red brick workshop with simple symmetrical facade and gabled roof concealed by a stepped parapet. At the centre of the ground level is a wide vehicle entry with a roller door. The opening has a wide concrete intel, which acts as the sill to the slightly narrower segmental-arched steel framed window at the upper level. Above this window there is a moulded brick string course. The gable end of the stepped parapet contains a circular window.Intactness / Condition : GoodGrading Review: Previous grading of D confirmed.
