General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1916History:The house at 60 Kensington Road was constructed c.1916. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1917, when the occupant was Frederick Wardle..Description:The house at 60 Kensington Road is a single-storey weatherboard Edwardian cottage with a gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof. The gabled verandah is supported on pairs of turned timber posts and has an elaborate timber fretted frieze. Gable ends are half-timbered with roughcast rendered infill. The side entrance is located beneath a skillion-roofed porch with details matching those of the verandah. The window is a tripartite timber-framed casement with highlights. The picket fence appears to be relatively recent..Significance:The house at 60 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
