General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1906History:The house at 71 Bayswater Road first appears in the Sands & McDougall directories in 1907. The first occupant of the house was recorded as Oliver Green, who resided in the house for almost a decade. By 1920, the occupant was noted as William Dove..Description:The building at 71 Bayswater Road is a single storey, symmetrical, block fronted Edwardian house with a hipped corrugated galvanised steel roof with paired eaves brackets. A bullnose profile verandah extends across the façade, and is embellished with cast iron lacework. Timber framed double-hung sashes flank the central timber-panelled entrance door. Chimneys are of brick, now painted and have corbelled capping's. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 71 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house is representative of the villas which were erected in Kensington during the early decades of the twentieth century and combines elements of both the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The house is intact and contributes to the surrounding streetscape.
