Building Type: ResidencePeriod; Date : Mid-Victorian; c.1869History : The two houses at 16-18 Orr Street were constructed c.1869, Rate books for 1870 list George Sobee as the owner, and describe the buildings as five-room brick houses, each with an Annual Average Value of £30. By 1890, the value of the houses had risen to £32, and rate books describe them as of five rooms on sites 30 by 60 feet.Description: The houses at 16-18 Orr Street comprise an attached and symmetrical pair of double-storey rendered brick Victorian houses, built on the property line. At ground floor level, each house has an arched, recessed door opening and a single rectangular window, whilst at first floor level each house has single window. The windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes with bracketed sills. At the parapet line there is an ornamented corbel at each side of the façade, with moulded rendered cornice running between.Intactness / Condition : GoodGrading Review: Previous grading of D confirmed. The houses are intact representatives of mid-Victorian residential development in Carlton.
