General notes:
Grading as at 1999: Upgraded from E to DPeriod: Mid VictorianShirley is a double-storey nineteenth century residence of brick construction. The roof is concealed behind a parapet, which is surmounted by a scrolled segmented pediment containing the name SHIRLEY in raised rendered lettering. The verandah has timber balustrading at the upper level, and a low brick wall with glazed brick capping at the lower level, also not original. The front facade contains a tripartite timber-framed double-hung sash window and a timber door with a fanlight at ground level, and two timber-framed double-hung sash windows at first floor level. The front door is not original. The house is of local aesthetic and historical interest, demonstrating the more affluent type of housing constructed in North Melbourne during the boom period of the nineteenth century. The nineteenth century form of the house is apparent and forms an important element within the local streetscape. It was constructed c 1887
