General notes:
Period: VictorianConstruction date: pre-1881History:The house at 18 Bayswater Road appears in the 1881-82 rate books as a three-room wooden house valued at #16. The house, together with No. 16, was owned by Samuel Atkins, a carter. The occupant of the house was noted as William Morrall..Description:The house at 18 Bayswater Road is a single-storey, block-fronted Victorian cottage with a gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof which is penetrated by a red brick chimney. The verandah has non-original timber posts and cast iron decoration. The original window has been replaced by an aluminium-framed sliding window, and the timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 18 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house is representative of the more modest housing which was erected in Kensington during the Boom of the 1880s. The house is intact and contributes to the nature of the surrounding streetscape. The house relates visually to the adjacent No. 16.
