General notes:
Period: VictorianConstruction date: 1884History:The house at 25 Wolseley Parade was built in 1884 for Lawrence Ward, a gentleman. The rate books for 1884-85 show Ward as the owner and occupier of a six-room brick house on Lot 79 of the Kensington Park Estate. The house had a Nett Annual Value of 24 pounds. Ward continued to occupy the house until 1890, at which time it had a NAV of 40 pounds..Description:The house at 25 Wolseley Parade is a symmetrical, single-storey double-fronted, rendered Italianate style villa with a hipped roof with bracketed eaves. A skillion-roofed verandah extends across the facade, terminated at either end by rendered wing walls. The central entrance door is flanked by timber-framed double-hung sash windows, and has narrow sidelights and a fanlight. The original verandah posts have been replaced by steel columns, and the roof has been reclad in terracotta tiles. The chimney is of bichromatic brickwork, with a moulded capping. The cast iron front fence appears to be original..Significance:The house at 25 Wolseley Parade, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. It is a reasonably intact example of the type of Italianate villa which was constructed in Kensington during the 1880s. It represents the more affluent type of development in the area. The house has a visual relationship with the adjacent Italianate villa at No. 27.
