The City of Melbourne Building Application Index indicates that a permit was issued for the building's construction on 7th July 1921. The value of the proposed house was noted as 900 (pounds). The first occupant of the house is recorded in the directories as James McElhinney. By 1925, the occupant was Edward Pierce..Description:The building at 83 Bayswater Road is a single storey red brick inter-War house with an L-shaped plan and a hipped and gabled Marseilles patterned terracotta tiled roof. The gable end is roughcast rendered. The projecting bay has a tripartite window of timber framed double-hung sashes, above which is a corrugated galvanised steel hood supported on timber brackets. The verandah has a curved brick balustrade and rendered supports. The brick front fence is not original..Significance:The house at 83 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house is representative of the type of development which occurred in Kensington during the inter-War period and displays a range of elements typical of the Bungalow style. The house is largely intact and makes a contribution to the surrounding streetscape.
