General notes:
Grading as at 1999 : Upgraded from E to CPeriod : Federation, built c 1903The house first appears in the Sands & McDougall directories in 1904. The first occupant of the house was noted as Edward Rocke. It is a single-storey, semi-detached timber-framed house with a brick façade, and forms a pair with the adjacent Number 291. They share a common hipped slate roof, penetrated by brick chimneys with stepped caps. The house at Number 293 has a corrugated steel roofed verandah supported on cast iron columns with an ornate frieze, terminated by brick wing walls embellished with vermiculated and corbelled consoles. The panelled front door has side and fanlight windows, and there is a pair of narrow timber-framed double hung sash windows. The cast iron front fence is original. The brickwork has been painted. It is of local aesthetic and historic importance, being an unusual example of an early twentieth century dwelling which incorporates both Victorian and Edwardian elements. The house is intact, retaining its original slate roof, verandah lacework, paired window openings and brick chimney.
