General notes:
A black and white photograph of a children's activity being held at the first East Melbourne Library in the 1980s. There are several children, three adults and a dog. The first East Melbourne Library was opened by City of Melbourne on the site of the current library some time around 1961. Prior to this there was no free library in East Melbourne. City of Melbourne purchased the property at 122 George Street in the late 1950s specifically for a library. "Eastcourt", home to the Balcombe family and built c1857, was demolished to make way for the library.
