Item from the Newmarket Saleyards collection. Abattoirs and Cattle Markets Department Annual report for year ended 30 September 1949 plus a covering letter from the Town Clerk to the Superintendent of Markets. There had been some industrial action during the year over unsatisfactory conditions and this affected normal operations.Motor vehicles were subject to new regulations (long proposed) and open tray vehicles would not be allowed to operate from the abattoirs from 30 June 1950.The only major capital work was the construction of the unmade section of the stock route leading to the stock bridge over the Maribyrnong River near Hobson's Road.A new first aid room was almost completed as well
