General notes:
Image held by North Melbourne Library. Elevation and section. Contract dated 14 January 1901. The Kensington and Flemington Town Hall was constructed in 1901 to the plans of Evander McIver, municipal surveyor and architect for the Borough of Flemington and Kensington. Much controversy surrounded the decision for the site for the Town Hall which was first considered eight years previously. Architectural the Town Hall demonstrates local civic pride with the inclusion in its design of a giant Corinthian order and a tower topped by a mansard roof; th4e pedimented portico, the basalt steps and iron rail balustrading provide a focus to the façade demonstrating a desire for a grand entrance. The building. located in Bellair Street, Kensington, functioned as a Town Hall for only four years; in 1905 the Borough of Flemington and Kensington became part of the City of Melbourne.
