General notes:
Grading as at 1999 : Upgraded from E to DPeriod : FederationThe rate book for 1905 indicates that the site of 1 Harris Street was vacant land valued at £8 and owned by the Victorian Insurance Company. The house is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory of 1912, occupied by William B Sangster. Subsequent directories indicate that the house was occupied by James Williamson in 1915, then by James A Whiteley from 1916 until 1920, and then by Edward J Brady into the 1920s.It is a single-storey Edwardian residence, constructed of red brick with a corrugated galvanised steel hipped roof. A verandah extending across the front façade has a corrugated galvanised steel roof supported on turned timber posts with a carved timber frieze. The frieze motif in replicated in the upper panel of a timber side gate. The façade has a canted bay window with timber shutters. The chimney is rendered brick with a corbelled capping. It is of local aesthetic interest, being typical example of the so-called Victorian Survival style, which refers to houses built in the early twentieth century that hark back to the late nineteenth century in their form and detailing.
