Fee 6.0.0brick motor garage, Little Bourke near cnr Little Bourke & Harwood Place.BOURKE HILL PRECINCT REVIEWcites Heritage Inventory H7822-1564.HISTORYThe building occupies an originally open site that housed the Marine Store Yards from the 1880's until c.1900. Itwas constructed as a Factory in 1912 and housed Chartley Cars, a motor garage until around 1930. The name'Chartley Cars' formed part of the building decoration, and was painted in the center of the parapet. The threelevel building then housed a number of printing businesses and was the home of the Royal Horticultural Society ofVictoria from the 1940's until the 1960's.FEATURESThree storey brick building featuring a three bay composition divided by oversized pilasters supporting a brokenentablature. The central bay features an arched pediment, flanked by a decorative parapet. Date is inscribedwithin the arch and the parapet is decorated with festoons on the pedestals. Facade is symmetrical, with archedwindows to the end bays and an oversized spandrel element below the windows. Note the brickwork has beenpainted, and originally the building had unpainted pilasters to complement the rendered detailANALYSISThe building is characteristic of a Federation Warehouse design. Whilst the ground floor facade has been altered, the building still displays elements of its former use. Historically, it is linked to the rise of the car through its use asChartley Cars Motor Garage from 1915. The building forms part of a notable group of red brick buildings andrelates well to the surrounding context. It is materially and architecturally linked to the surrounding buildings
