General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1914History:The house at 52 Kensington Road was constructed c.1914. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1915, when the occupant was John Aitken, who remained there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 52 Kensington Road is a single-storey, block-fronted Edwardian villa on an L-shaped plan and with a hipped and gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof. The projecting bay is gabled with half-timbering and roughcast render to the gable end. The bullnose verandah has turned timber posts and cast iron decoration, and windows are timber-framed casements with highlights. The chimney is red brick chimney with corbelled capping. The low brick front fence is not original..Significance:The house at 52 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is representative of the development in the area in the early twentieth century. Aesthetically, the house is an intact example of the Edwardian timber villas which were constructed in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
