General notes:
Grading as at 1985 : CPeriod : Federation (1911)Grantee : J Davey 1865Alex H. Braid, of Canning Street, North Melbourne, owned these houses from their construction in 1911 and resided in 500 Dryburgh Street around 1914. The other houses were leased to Roderick McGregor, George Watson and Robert L. Cromie. Braid was an engineer by occupation.Still adopting the late Victorian period stylism, these are three parapetted red brick and stucco row houses, with iron decorated verandahs and iron picket fences between plain brick piers. The entablatures have segment-arched pediments with foliated tympanums, piers, scrolls, and panelling. 502-4 have clipped hedges at the frontage; providing sympathetic garden elements, although obscuring the fences. Notable features include fence, verandah decoration, verandah roof and structure. The hedges are not extant.Architecturally, a late, but original example of a common 19th century row house form which contributes indirectly to a residential precinct; of local importance. Historically, of local interest as another example of resident property speculation.
