Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1905History:The house at 6 Belmont Road was built c.1905 on Lot 47 of a large 1897 subdivision which saw most of Kensington, Bayswater and Belmont Roads subdivided into suburban lots with 44 to 50 foot frontages. The first house in Belmont Road, the house is first listed in Sands & McDougall directories in 1905, when it is recorded as vacant. The following year, the occupant is listed as Robert Lightbody, who remained there until c.1913, when he was succeeded by William Bennie, who occupied the house until c1913, when he was succeeded by William Bennie, who occupied the house until at least 1916..Description:The house at 6 Belmont Road is a single-storey double-fronted Edwardian weatherboard villa, with a corrugated galvanised steel hipped roof. The facade has a central door flanked by single timber-framed double-hung sash widows. The skillion-profile verandah has timber posts and decorative timber fretwork. The two red brick chimneys have corbelled capping. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The houst at 6 Belmont Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historical interest. It is an intact and relatively plain example of the type of Edwardian villas which were constructed in Kensington in the early twentieth century. It contributes to the intact Belmont Road streetscape.
