Construction Date: 1775Architects: Stephenson & MeldrumHistoric Summary: The cottage was built in 1775 in Great Ayton, Yorkshire, by Captain James Cook's father. It was purchased by Russell Grimwade, carefully dismantled and re-erected in the Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne's Centenary Year 1934, at Grimwade's expense. Cook was 27 when it was built, and stayed in it infrequently when visiting his parents.
