BOURKE HILL PRECINCT HERITAGE REVIEWcontributory to Bourke Hill PrecinctHISTORYThe two storey brick warehouse was constructed prior to 1888. It is probable that the building was built as a cabinetmakers warehouse, with 'Chinese cabinet makers' listed on the 1888 Mahlstedt Plan. The building has been occupied by various industries over its lifetime, with no predominant or defining use…FEATURESDouble storey Victorian brick warehouse building with a central pediment. Is characteristic of a warehouse building, and features a central arched entranceway, with a double door on first level. The building is fairly intact, however the ground floor entrance has been infilled and painted…ANALYSISThe building is an early building of interest, remaining in a highly altered streetscape. It is one of the only remaining links to Liverpool Street, a highly utilized manufacturing strip in the CBD and architecturally it is understandable as an early factory building. It makes a notable contribution to the streetscape.Appendix 2 - Sands McDougall Commercial General Directories 1868-1970.DIRECTORIES OF VICTORIA, MELBOURNE-SANDS AND KENNY, SANDS & MCDOUGALL(TRETHOWAN Appendix 2 - Sands McDougall Commercial General Directories 1868-1970: previous Juliet Terrace-Nothing Listed to 1915?)192023 Liverpool Street John K.
