Using English raw materials, 'expert operatives' from England were brought to Melbourne to operate the machines and train staff (Australasian 26 August 1939:40). The building at 270 Lonsdale Street housed Edmunds Bros Pty Ltd and was also the registered office of Ensign Lamps Pty Ltd through until the 1950s. It is believed the Ensign Lamps factory was located at 544 Lonsdale Street.By 1954, Thorn Electrical Industries (Australia) Pty Ltd operated from the premises at 268-270 Lonsdale Street (Age 12 November 1954:6).
