General notes:
Grading as at 1991 : CPeriod : Federation (1901-1902)Grantee : J Brown 1852These row houses were built for a Mrs. Catherine Sullivan in 1901-2. She lived in 120 Chetwynd Street and let the other to a labourer, William Armstrong.Late in style for the construction date, these are stuccoed brick single-storey, single-fronted row houses with iron verandahs and parapetted roof lines. Central parapet pediments have foliated tympanums, and are supported on prominent brackets which rest on the parapet cornice. An urn is placed, as an acroterion, at the apex of each. Compound iron bracketted-friezes are richly decorative for the small scale of the house, whilst smooth rustication to the walls and moulded sills provide further embellishment. Notable features include iron and cement details and verandah. Architecturally, incomplete and stylistically late examples of a typical form, but the detailing is crisp and well preserved: of local importance. Historically, a speculative development: of local interest.
