General notes:
Period; Date: Mid-Victorian; pre-1857, remodeled 1940Description: The Hotel Lincoln is a double storey rendered brick hotel on a prominent corner site. The two street elevations, of which the one to Queensberry Street is wider and more prominent, have a series of irregularly spaced, timber framed double hung sashes at each level. The main entrance is on the splayed corner at the intersection of the two facades, and has an elongated vertical strip of clinker brick ornament rising above it. The ground floor is clad to dado level with cream coloured ceramic tiles. The strip of wall between the ground and first floors has horizontal strips of clinker brick ornament, and the words 'Hotel Lincoln".Significance: The Hotel Lincoln, at 128-132 Queensberry Street, Carlton, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. It is a typical example of a Victorian hotel, subsequently remodelled in the inter-War period when changes were made to the Liquor Licensing laws. The site has been continuously occupied by a hotel of this, or similar, name since the 1850's. As such, the building provides evidence of early development of the area. Typical of hotels, its is a local landmark and prominent element in the streetscape.
