General notes:
Period: VictorianConstruction date: pre-1881History:The house at 24 Bayswater Road appears in the 1881-82 rate books as a three-room brick house valued at #22. The house was owned and occupied by John Harvey. By 1885, the ownership of the house had passed to Alfred T Hayden, a contractor..Description:The house at 24 Bayswater Road is a single-storey, double-fronted Victorian villa, of brick construction (now painted) with a slate roof. Symmetrically composed, the central entrance door is flanked by timber-framed double-hung sash windows. A verandah extends across the façade and has timber posts and cast iron brackets; the frieze decoration has been removed. Chimneys are of brick, also painted. The timber picket fence is recent..Significance:The house at 24 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. As one of the earlier houses in the street, the villa demonstrate the type of residential development which occurred during Kensington's formative years. The house is intact and makes a positive contribution to the surrounding streetscape.
