The house is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1912, when the occupant was John Cronin..Description:The house at 31 Gower Street is a single-storey, block-fronted Edwardian cottage with a hipped and gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof. The gable end is half-timbered with roughcast rendered infill and has a timber finial at its apex. The L-shaped verandah has turned timber posts and cast iron decoration. The setback side entrance has a panelled door with side and fanlights. The original windows has been replaced with an aluminium-framed sliding window. The red brick chimney has a rendered cap and terracotta pots. The woven wire front fence is not original..Significance:The house at 31 Gower Street, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. It is a reasonably intact example of the type of Edwardian cottages which were built in Kensington in the 1910s. It represents a major phase of development of much of Kensington.
