The City of Melbourne Building Application Index indicates that a permit to construct the house was issued on 4 July 1924. The value of the proposed house was 829 pounds. The directories record the first occupant of the house as Albert E. McLaughlan, who resided in the house for over 45 years..Description:The house at 17 Bayswater Road is a single-storey detached inter-War bungalow with a deep front garden. The house has a longitudinally gabled roof clad in Marseilles pattern terracotta tiles. The symmetrical front elevation has a central gabled porch flanked by canted bay windows. The gable ends of both the main roof and the porch are half-timbered and have small finials. Windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes with multi-paned upper sashes..Significance:The house at 17 Bayswater Road, Kensington, is of local aesthetic and historic interest. The house is a distinctive example of inter-War development in Kensington. The house is intact and contributes to the nature of the surrounding streetscape.
