The project coincided with the computerization of Land Title information. Concurrently, associated storage was relocated to the former Public records Office at Laverton. The accommodation provides a customer service centre, office accommodation and working storage for Land Victoria with associated car parking and staff amenities. Off site storage was to be provided at the former Public Records Office, Laverton. The space standards to be adopted were those of the Department of Treasury and Finance with accommodation varying from enclosed offices (18, 12 and 10 square metres), to open workstation areas (7 and 8 square metres). Each floor has common shared facilities comprising reception, conference room and breakout area. The new fit-out requirement was that the tenancy should be delivered with ESD principles in mind and that the tenancy construction be evaluated against the Ecologically Sustainable Development Office Fit-out Guidelines. The resultant 5 star rating is an international first and has exceeded Land Victoria s expectations.DETAILSLocationMelbourne, VICArchitectRobert Peck von Hartel Trethowan & ESD Consultant, Taylor Oppenheim03 9934 7333Project TeamProject architect: Ms Yvonne von Hartel, Robert Peck von Hartel TrethowanDesign architect: Robert Peck von Hartel TrethowanProject manager: Mr Nick Massie, John Wertheimer Consultants Pty LtdStructural consultant: Mr Andre Kuter, Kuter Consulting Pty LtdElectrical consultant: Mr C P Leong, Meinhardt (Vic) Pty LtdMechanical consultant: Mr Brian Lacey, Meinhardt (Vic) Pty LtdHydraulic consultant: Mr Marcus Fox, Meinhardt (Vic) Pty LtdInterior designer: Robert Peck von Hartel TrethowanAcoustic consultant: Mr James Watson, Watson Moss Growcott Pty LtdServices consultant: Mr Bruce Matthews, MeinhardtEnvironmental consultant: Mr David Oppenheim, Sustainable Built EnvironmentsQuantity consultant: Mr Laurie Thomas, WT Partnership Pty LtdCommunications consultant: Mr Gary D'Souza, Meinhardt (Vic) Pty LtdBuilder: Mr Brian Sands, APM Group (Vic) P/LPhotographer: Mr Dan Magree, Dan Magree Photography Pty LtdEntered2002Matt Henry art broker web sitehttp://www.matthenryartbroker.com/artists/2/`In 1970 Ken Reinhard was awarded the richest sculpture commission in Australia. In competition with 35 other sculptors he was awarded the $25,000 Marland House Sculpture Commission for a work to be located the forecourt of Marland House – new high-rise building in Bourke Street Melbourne. Reinhard’s work, completed and installed in 1972, was acknowledged as one of the best examples of Pop Art sculpture in Australia.'Cross-section 216- Jan 1971The Melbourne profession is amazed at MarlandHouse, not only because it is emerging as this city'slargest office tower with 151 acres of floor space, butis being clad in defiance of prestige norms with cheapstock tiling and is reputed to be of a very low costper square. The 8000 square ft. plaza is to be finishedin a pattern of glazed and unglazed tiles, and to enhancethis expanse, the developers, Capital & Counties(Australia) Pty. Ltd. have invited Australiansculptors to compete for the design of a sculpture orfountain. The commission price payable to the winnerfor the completed work is $25,000. Some recent competitionsjustify this method in finding a good designand sculptor but the final choice is dependant on thequality of the adjudicators. The decision here of GordonThompson, Elwyn Lynn and John Reed is surelyto be impeccable. Architects and engineers for MarlandHouse are E. & G. Kolle and Associates.
