General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1916History:The house at 56 Kensington Road was constructed c.1916. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1917, when the occupant was James Richardson, who remained there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 56 Kensington Road is a single-storey, block-fronted Edwardian cottage with a gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof. The gable ends are half-timbered with roughcast render infill, and the verandah is supported on turned timber posts. The verandah frieze decoration has been removed. The setback side entrance door has a narrow sidelight and a fanlight. The chimney is of red brick with corbelled capping..Significance:The house at 56 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
