HISTORY. (Source: Business Directories).1870 J., McIntyre, Draper (No. 139 only).1880139 - McPherson, Milliner.141.- Purser, Hairdresser and Tobacconist. This is the first mention of two (two storey) buildings on the site as shown on the 1888 Mahlstedt plan as a double "terrace". The buildings are similarly indicated on the 1905-6 Mahlstedt. The directories and rate books are unclear past this point, however, it appears that after 1910 the separate tenements are combined into one building. The 1923 Mahlstedt plan indicates one building of two storey occupying the entire site.2. DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS.A two storey symmetrical building of Italianate styling. There is evidence that the building originally had a verandah. The detailing to the ground floor facade has been removed. There are better examples of this type and style of building in a better setting elsewhere in the City.3. RECOMMENDATIONThe retention of this building is not warranted._______________________________________MAHLSTEDT FIRE INSURANCE PLAN SERIES STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA -MAHLSTEDT AND GEE 1888.
