General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1916History:The house at 68 Kensington Road was constructed c.1916. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1917, when the occupant was William D Carlyle, who remained there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 68 Kensington Road is an L-shaped single-storey Edwardian block-fronted weatherboard villa. Beside the verandah is a projecting bay with a half-timbered gable-end above a pair of timber-framed double-hung sash windows with highlights. The hipped and gabled roof is clad in corrugated galvanised steel and is penetrated by red brick chimneys with roughcast caps..Significance:The house at 68 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is representative of the development in the area in the early twentieth century. Aesthetically, the house is an intact example of the Edwardian timber villas which were constructed in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
