General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1912History:The house at 40 Kensington Road was constructed c.1912. The house is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1913, when the occupant was James Streeter, who lived there for three years..Description:The house at 40 Kensington Road is a single-storey block-fronted Edwardian cottage with a corrugated galvanised steel gabled roof. The gable end is half timbered with roughcast render infill. A small verandah supported on timber posts extends across the facade, forming a small porch for the recessed side entrance. Timber brackets to the verandah remain, although the frieze has been removed. The window is a tripartite timber-framing double-hung sash..Significance:The house at 40 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
