General notes:
Period: EdwardianConstruction date: c1914History:The house at 50 Kensington Road was constructed c.1914. It is first listed in the Sands & McDougall directory in 1915, when the occupant was Herbert W Anderson, who remained there until at least 1920..Description:The house at 50 Kensington Road is a single-storey weatherboard Edwardian cottage with a gabled corrugated galvanised steel roof which is penetrated by a red brick chimney. The gable end is infilled with weatherboards, and the small verandah has timber posts, timber fretted frieze, carved timber brackets and a simple timber balustrade. The entrance door, located to the side, has side and highlights, and windows are timber-framed double-hung sashes..Significance:The house at 50 Kensington Road, Kensington, is of local historical and aesthetic interest. The house is an example of the type of small timber Edwardian cottages which were constructed in large numbers in this part of Kensington in the 1910s. The house is a contributory element in a largely intact streetscape.
