Woolf or his estate continued ownership into the 1940sTenants included Henry Harris (1870s-1880s), Sun Kee (early 1900s), and John Bruckner (1930s-40s). More recently it was absorbed into the hotel business, becoming the fashionable Legend bistro and restaurant.DescriptionTwo storey face-brick parapeted shop and residence (once one of three) with stucco cornice moulding and unusual stucco detailing to window architraves.External IntegrityGround level new, bricks painted, street verandah gone (1) with new 'modern sympathetic' verandah attached which is out of scale with the building. Upper-level window blocked.Streetscape:Visually absorbed into the corner hotel.SignificanceNow a shell only, the building has housed the ethnic waves felt in the precinct (Jews, Chinese, Greeks) and, with the corner hotel and the shops in Russell Street, represents a long association with the Woolf family.Contributes to precinct.GRAEME BUTLER 1985 MELBOURNE CENTRAL ACTIVITIES DISTRICT CONSERVATION STUDYBUILDING IDENTIFICATION FORM_________________________________________GRAEME BUTLER 1989, LITTLE BOURKE STREET PRECINCT CONSERVATION STUDYsee https://issuu.com/graemebutler21/docs/little_bourke_st_precinct_conservatBUILDING IDENTIFICATION FORM: 1877_________________________________________LEWIS, M- AUSTRALIAN ARCHITECTURE INDEX: 27/ 08/ 1877MCC registration no 7326 [Burchett Index]. The prisoner stated that the landlord and he had been playing quoits on the previous day, and, at the end of their play, Mr. Woolf invited him to dinner. He eventually got tipsy, and did not know what he did after; but it appeared that he went into the pantry of the house and took up the pots, whereupon the landlord gave him into custody. The case was dismissed..1858CITY OF MELBOURNE ANNUALLICENSING SESSION.The Annual Licensing Meeting for the City Of Melbourne, adjourned from last week, was held yesterday, at,the City Police Court, before the following magistrates :-His Worship the Mayor, and Messrs. Mr. Purves and Mr. Hood appeared for tho plaintiffs, and Dr. Madden and Mr. Hodges for the defence. The plaintiffs were the proprietors of the building in Nicholson-street recently occupied by the defendant, and used for the purposes of the college. Upon the defendant giving up possession of the premises, it was found, according to the plaintiffs' statement, that they had been allowed to fall into a state of dilapidation, and that some of the fixtures were removed. The repairing of the building entailed considerable expense upon the plaintiffs, who now sought compensation. The defendant paid £1 into court in satisfaction of the claim. The jury found a two-thirds verdict for defendant, which was accepted by consent.(DIRECTORIES OF MELBOURNE-, SANDS & MCDOUGALL 1880: College was at 156 Nicholson Street, Fitzroy east side between Bell and Victoria Streets)see http://vhd.heritage.vic.gov.au/search/nattrust_result_detail/65531 for next Carlton College 1882-see https://www.flickr.com/photos/116227903@N04/14298706593/ for Carlton College background.1891The Prahran Telegraph (Vic. : 1889 - 1930) Wednesday 30 September 1891 - Page 3Mr. Henry Woolf, of Beaconsfield parade, the father of the city solicitor of St. Kilda, expired on Saturday last at theripe age of 73 years. The Age (Melbourne, Vic. : 1854 - 1954)Tuesday 29 September 1891 - Page 1DEATHSWOOLF.— On the 26th September, Henry Woolf, of Sydney Villa, Beaconsfield-parade, St. Kilda, aged 73.WOOLF.— On the 26th September, Henry Woolf, of St. Kilda, father of Louis S.
