In November last (says the "Age") about a dozen spurious notes for £10 cash, purporting to be issued by the E. S. and A. C. Bank, were put in circulation. …Whoever got the forged note next must have thrown it away on discovering it to be valueless. It was found on the pavement by a lad named John J. Caples, son of a grocer at 101 Little Lonsdale-street, who apparently not being aware of its true character presented it at the Opera House on the night of the 20th inst. The ticket-taker, detecting the forgery, whilst in the act of giving the lad the change, with a 3s. ticket for the stalls that he wanted, handed the note to the treasurer, Mr. W. A. Jinkins, who gave young Caples into custody of Sergeant-Detective Nixon. At the City Court, before Mr. Call and other magistrates, Caples was charged with utturing a forged note. Six witnesses having given evidence, accused, who was defended by Mr. F. Stephen, was committed for trial..1937https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/11048570In conjunction with W W Norman and Co and E M Purdy and Co Pty LtdSidney Arnold and Co also submitted five shops on land about 74ft by 59ft at No 276 to 284 Russell street on the south-east comer of Little Lonsdale street The property was passed In at £5 500 A factory site comprising two old houses at No 146 and 148 Little Lonsdale street corner of Davidsons place was also passed In at £1000 .
