General notes:
Building type: FactoryPeriod; Date : Inter-War ; c.1938History: The records of the Melbourne City Council indicate that a building permit application was made on 18 March 1938 for the erection of a building at 145-147 Bouverie Street, Carlton to cost £2,000. The completed building first appears in Sand & McDougall directory for 1939, listed as a factory occupied by Ingram Brother Pty Ltd. This company remained there, albeit with slight changes is name, until the mid-1960's.Description : The building is a double-storey brick commercial building in the moderne style. The cream face brick façade is dominated by a series of five tall, narrow steel-framed windows at the first floor level. separated by rendered piers and with horizontal glazing bars. One of the piers extends vertically beyond the parapet. The ground floor entrance is asymmetrically located beneath below a slightly projecting hood.Significance: The building of Former Ingram Bros is of considerable local aesthetic importance, it is a particularly fine and intact example of the inter-war streamlined Moderne style, distinguished by a strong vertical expression of strip and fin-like mullion elements.Intactness / Condition : Good
