William Flint, a solicitor of Flint and Harvey, Queen Street, Melbourne was the first occupier, remaining there until after c1910. E and M Moran, B Kennedy and J Baudains were other occupiers.Description- One level stuccoed brick house with a cast iron verandah and an asymmetrical bay to the front elevation. Slatted hipped roofs mark the Italianate style as do the decorative motifs which include deep eaves bracketting interspersed with rosettes, cast iron cresting and finials, barrel top chimney cornices and duplex verandah posts which mark the portico like gable to the verandah roof. Segment arched and architraved openings, decorated impost mouldings, encaustic paving tiles and ornate cast iron fencing complete the total decorative elements possible from the contemporary manufacturing methods. A side entrance and gate also catered for the professional owner/occupier. This house was built after Bangalore in a modified and scaled down manner. The architect may have been F.J. Brearley.Integrity - Colours and roof gutters have changed.Streetscape - Contributing element to an important streetscapeSignificance- Architecturally, like Bangalore, this near original and richly decorated modestly sized villa epitomises the high Victorian aesthetic of the suburban dweller and derives further importance from its proximity to similarly styled villas. Historically, this house shares the local significance of the Gidney family with other developments in this part of North Melbourne..Recommendations - Repaint in oriqinal or typical colours; use ogee profile guttering..References:(RB= Rate book; D= Melbourne or Victoria Directory)1 .·RB 1893-4, 3662; R8 1894- 5 , 3650; D. 1905; D. 1896.___________________________Notable features include the fence, verandah decoration, verandah roof and structure and an elaborate / high standard design of cement rendered surfaces.___________________________NEWSPAPERS (TROVE):1894https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/241580939THE LATE ISAAC GIDNEY.HIS LAST WILL-The will of the late Isaac Gidney, of Stratford villa, Dryburgh street, North Melbourne, exporter of horses, has boon filed.
