This film traces the life and works of Henrik Ibsen, one of the greatest dramatists of his age, and the 'father' of modern drama. Born in the small coastal town of Skien, Norway, to a family of middle-class burghers, Ibsen worked as an apprentice to an apothecary, before moving to Oslo to study. Ibsen began writing plays, which found little favour in Norway. He lived in Italy and Germany, and wrote for about 30 years, most notably known for his plays concerning rights of women, and Norwegian independence.
