With the help of his good friend Lady Frances Derwant, Bobby investigates. Following a trail of clues and setting up an elaborate charade in order to insinuate themselves into the Bassington-ffrench household, their trail leads them into a world of morphine addiction, psychiatric clinics, enticing inheritances and, of course, murder.
