This film by Malcolm Hossick traces the life, work, and overview of the music of Bach, an astonishingly gifted German musician and composer who experienced a tortured life of success and drawbacks. Johann Sebastian Bach is now considered to be one of the great masters of music. He built upon the developments of harmony, which began during the Renaissance, learning and understanding the world in scientific terms. He was an astonishingly gifted musician with a tortured life of success and drawbacks. This film by Malcolm Hossick explores how he worked and lived, and assesses the contribution he made to music. It is followed by a brief overview of his musical output. Born in Germany into a talented musical family, Bach's musical gifts showed at an early age. By his late teens, he was an organist at the local church and soon moved on to positions in German princely courts. In the German musical world, he quickly gained a reputation as a master organist and composer. It was not until, almost a century after his death, his greatness was fully recognised outside Germany. This film by Malcolm Hossick traces his life and work and ends with an overview of his music.
