After consistently keeping Gucci at the top of the game for over a decade, in 2004, Tom Ford and Domenico de Sole - the powerhouse duo who revived the stale brand in the late 20th century - stepped down from their posts due to breakdowns in contract negotiations. The fashion world was thrown into a tizzy, wondering who could step into their dauntingly successful shoes. Designer Alessandra Facchietti was brought in to design womenswear. She lasted two seasons, and was replaced by the then head of accessory design, Frida Giannini, who continues to keep Gucci on the fashion radar.
