Cardillac [compact disc] : Oper in Drei Akten, op. 39
Hindemith, Paul, 1895-19632023
Music
The MDR Radio Choir and its artistic director Philipp Ahmann present a selection of Felix Mendelssohn's choral works, which are among the highlights of 19th century sacred music in Germany. You can hear settings of psalms, motets, Latin verses, excerpts from the "German Liturgy" and the ethereal choral work "For he has commanded his angels". A special gem of this album is the world premiere recording of the piece "Heilig", MWV 47. The singers of the MDR Radio Choir - one of the best choirs in the German-speaking world - know this repertoire very well, after all it was composed by a local musical master and is deeply rooted in the culture of the city.
