Eclectic Carlton

Book
Eclectic Carlton is is a photography book that is visual story of the popular inner city suburb of Carlton, in the City of Melbourne. The subject matter draws both the eye and the mind of the viewer and is of a documentary and street photography manner. By capturing a large variety of subject matter, this technique builds a perspective and impression of the area within the years of 2013 to 2020.The images are sometimes quirky and whimsical but also importantly combine historic buildings, our parks and people who enjoy them, our homes, pets, shop fronts, pop-up art, street art, and it wouldn't be Carlton if there wasn't a variety of political statements. The majority of images were captured in a spontaneous manner, as I walked looking and exploring the streets with a variety of cameras including DSLR's and several iPhones. The book is a snapshot of the past and present day and highlights the charming and diverse spirit of the locality and of its permanent and transient residents and visitors. While we are inundated with images on social media, these can be deleted or disappear in an instant, this book is a tangible record of a period of time to hold in our hands, as we touch and flick through the pages of a moment in time.
