Abandoned Melbourne : lockdown

John, Gavin2021
Book
Abandoned Melbourne presents a collection of photographs of the perennially awarded world's most liveable city rendered empty, abandoned and in lockdown. A cultural melting pot, Melbourne affords its residents a broad range of fine dining and festival both indoors and out. It offers exemplary lifestyle and vocational opportunities. The city possesses an abundance of museums, galleries, theatres, and live arts and entertainment venues, shopping strips and high-end shopping malls. Enjoying a temperate oceanic climate, and the natural splendour of the island continent's unspoiled and diverse landscapes on its periphery, Melbournians could well be forgiven for believing they live in paradise. Then the pandemic hit. Abandoned Melbourne depicts Melbourne vacant, with the customary buzz of the CBD's places and spaces rendered motionless and without life. Landscape photographer Gavin John, a long-term resident of Melbourne, turns his camera and his focus onto vistas of a different nature and reveals downtown Melbourne as it has never been witnessed before.
