Dorothy Seymour, a successful scriptwriter in Hollywood, plans to marry Paul Brett, a representative for various film companies, as her third husband. One night as they are driving along at high speed, a young man rushes out in front of the car, and is injured. Paul is indignant when Dorothy brings the man, Lewis, into their house and into their lives. While Hollywood is stunned by a series of murders of well-known people, amongst them one of Dorothy's ex-husbands the relationship between the three develops and ends in an unexpected and yet inevitable way.
