Vera Wang did what many thought was impossible; she brought style to what was formerly a fashion wasteland - the bridal industry. By stripping away gratuitous ribbons and bows and adding a modern touch, she's become a household name, and has built a business worth well over 300 million dollars. Educated at Chapin, Sarah Lawrence College, and the Sorbonne in Paris, at age 23 Vera was the youngest fashion editor ever at Vogue magazine; a stint that lasted 16 years. From there, she went on to become a design director for Ralph Lauren. Vera perfected her aesthetic sense with the fashion industry's best. Sensing a niche in the fashion business after a frustrating search for her own bridal gown, Vera entered the bridal business in 1990 with the financial backing of her father. In less than two decades she's been able to parlay her bridal success into books, fragrance, accessories, home, ready-to-wear, and now a moderately priced collection for mass retailer, Kohl's, garnering a 2005 CFDA and other awards along the way.
