Meatbaby

Work
Review: A gentle, thorough, and powerfully portrayed exploration of the immediate (and emotional) aftermath of a hysterectomy following chronic illness (endometriosis). It combines the character’s relationship with body, gender, family and prejudice together in a second-person narration which invites the reader to share in those experiences. Like the body it depicts, this text becomes a constantly shifting surface: surprising, tender, moving and witty, ‘Meatbaby’ continually reveals new angles of narrative and character. It is a tightly-written piece and above all there are tender notes of hope - an understanding relationship, a chance to live without pain. I loved every minute of reading - Judges comments.
